Anshul Jubli is an Indian mixed martial artist known as the ‘King of Lions’. He is the second Indian to make it into the UFC. He is currently in a contract with the lightweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship and is also the first Indian to win a UFC fight.
Anshul Jubli was born on 13 January 1995 in a village named Bhatwari, near Uttarkashi town of the north Indian state of Uttarakhand. His father was a serviceman in the BSF and was constantly transferred therefore Anshul Jubli spent most of his time across different states in India. His family finally settled in Dehradun.
His dream was to join the Indian Army as a commissioned officer. For this, he also started preparing for SSB and CDS examinations. In the meantime, Anshul started watching MMA and was introduced to the martial arts by his brother. He finished his degree with a B.Sc degree in Mathematics from the HN Bahuguna Garhwal University and landed a job as a teacher before turning to mixed martial arts.
While preparing for the CDS entrance exam he first came to know of Mixed Martial Arts from YouTube videos featuring Firas Zahabi, a Lebanese-Canadian MMA teacher as well as Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) and MMA instructor, John Danaher. Anshul Jubli used to reenact the moves shown in the YouTube videos with his friends.
Lack of training in his hometown forced him to migrate to Delhi where he joined the Crosstrain Fight Club which was run by Siddharth Singh where he learned the finer points of the game. He also practiced building up his muscle strength under Deepak Karaij and integrated it into augmenting his skills for the game. He learned boxing at Tokas Boxing Club under Rohit Tokas, an amateur boxer.
Anshul Jubli’s MMA career started in earnest in 2019 when he joined professional MMA at Matrix Fight Night (MFN), a MMA promotion founded by Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff. He achieved his first victory in a fight against Sanjeet Budhwar on 29 June 2019. Success soon followed and on 20 December he defeated Amit Raj Kumar by decision of the judges. He knocked out his opponent Rajith Chandranon on 28 February 2020 in a time of just 4:44 in the first round in Dubai. On 15 December he won his match against Srikant Shekhar by decision after 3 round fight and later subdued Mohammad Mahmoudian in round 1 on 24 September.

Anshul Jubli’s stint with the UFC started when he entered the UFC Lightweight Tournament and made it into the semifinals after his opponent Patrick Sho Usami missed the weight cut and had to withdraw from the event.
In the semis he subdued South Korean Kyung Pyo Kim via split decision and in the finals he defeated Jeka Saragih of Indonesia by a technical knockout in the second round.
His scintillating performance earned him the Performance of the Night and a contract with the UFC and thus became the only second Indian to earn a contract with the UFC.
